Hi allHappy New Year 2011
Resilience
"Resilience" can be defined as "the ability to recover quickly from illness, change or misfortune, buoyancy" (American Heritage Dictionary: answers.com). Our children returned to school last week and life goes on for all of us, although the devastating floods throughout Queensland have shocked us all, with many personally affected by the floodwaters at home and at work. Many volunteers have assisted with the clean-up effort including MCO's Director, Mel Symon and her family, who recently visited Fairfield to help with the clean up operation and cycled in the "Ride for Relief" to raise funds for victims of the floods.
It is the New Year and the right time to be deciding on this year's training goals and moving ahead with your company's training plans. How can we help? Contact the friendly staff of Managed Corporate Outcomes, Sam, Maree, Cecilia, Caitlin on 07 3205 1130 for more information.

We also celebrate our great training relationship with "Parmalat", who also suffered flooding damage. We also share a "Good News Story" from one of our graduates in Diploma of OH&S in Newcastle, Ernie Appleton. So, have a look at this month's news and let us also introduce some new funding opportunities for you and your staff in 2011.
Good Luck Jacqui "Student of the Month"
Jacqui Insley, Service Admin Supervisor with “SJ Electric” is our Student of the Month this January. She has been employed with "SJ Electric" for 12 months and is currently studying her Diploma in Business with MCO. She speaks highly of her trainer Rosina Aston who has encouraged her to draw on past experiences and assist her to relate her study modules to her current work. Jacqui says “I’ve benefited from doing the actual training and its really good to have Rosina who’s taught me a lot and I feel comfortable with her. We are currently meeting once a month and I can relay any questions I have in regard to the training in the meantime. On a few occasions I have sent info to her and she’s sent back some really good feedback on areas I can touch up on and have a look at. Its great to have someone you can work with and be ‘straight
up’ with about how you feel about some of the areas and what your findings have been and to confirm that I’ve been heading in the right direction."
"I’d recommend this training with MCO to anyone whether they be experienced or new students I feel its definitely something to aspire to", Jacqui says.

MCO has a great training relationship with Parmalat, one of the major manufacturers of milk, yoghurt and fresh dairy products in Australia. The National Training Coordinator Dennis Smallcombe says that it is the flexibility of training with their people that is important. He says "It is very important that we get the match right with our training plans." It is "being able to blend the national units of competency to "PARMALATISE" the training to suit our business" that he feels is important. The outcome has to align with the need of the individuals" Mr Smallcombe says. Parmalat despite suffering flooding damage at South Brisbane, has announced donations of profits of around $1 million in sales of certain products to help with the flood appeal.
A great Training Relationship with Parmalat

Graduate employment: Dip OH&S
Ernie Appleton completed his Diploma of OH&S in Newcastle in November 2010 under the NSW PPP for job-seekers and shortly afterwards landed a terrific job as Construction Manager at "Cadia Mines" in Orange. After 15 years working in the construction industry in the Middle East, and then umemployed for 6 weeks, Ernie said that the Diploma course helped him greatly in securing his new position. "It gave me a deeper insight into health and safety which is a whole different process in the mining industry". I feel that it is integral that you have this OH&S knowledge as without it, you may be passed over for Project Manager or Supervisor", Ernis said. "I would recommend MCO 100% to people wanting to increase their skills." "Cadia Mines" is managed by Newcrest, a leading international gold company and one of the
world's lowest gold producers. The company is Australia's largest gold producer and a global top 10 gold mining company. Well done Ernie on your success!
SJ Electrics - Getting back to business!
MCO have a great training relationship with "SJ Electric" at Albion. When their buildings in Elliot Street, Albion were flooded, everyone including the Managing Director, Russell Stanley pitched in to help. Gail Kemp, PA Administration said "The week the floods started to hit, everyone came to work as normal. On the Tuesday afternoon BCC told us to make arrangements for the building as it was going to under in the floods. All the staff waded through knee deep water on the Wednesday just to get to work. It was wonderful to see all the emloyees pitching in - everyone came to work. We moved equipment, files, everything went up on top of the desks and electricial equipment too. The boys filled sandbags and sandbagged outside the doors. It never actually penetrated the office but the warehouse went under and the office across the
road had 2 ins of water. Once it was over, we cleaned up, ripped up the carpet and had new carpet in 3 days. We recoverd well. People worked together and work resumed again on Monday 17th. The Managing Director, Russell Stanley was in the thick of it and there every day.
