Managed Corporate Outcomes

Hi all

Merry Christmas from the MCO Team

"And so this is Christmas/and what have you done" - John Lennon

Welcome to our December Newsletter.  We hope you have achieved much during the year and are looking forward to a relaxing Christmas, spending time with your families and a return to the hurly-burly in 2011.  This month, we congratulate six "students of the month" from Sonic Health Care (Qld X-Ray) who achieved their Cert IV in Project Management this year.  We also celebrate our great training relationship with Hy-Performance Fluids at Hillcrest.  This is MCO's training in action and working as Partners in Training.

Looming Skills Crisis

There have been many references in the newspapers recently on the looming skills crisis ("Courier Mail Oct pp30/31) and the need for employers to equip their staff for the future.  Robert Half, who has conducted a survey on measures taken to combat skills shortages, has found that employers need to use methods to stop staff from leaving and "start a dialogue" about their goals and aspirations, giving them the coaching and training to help them achieve their goals ("Weekend Australian: Weekend Professional" p1).

Hy-Performance Fluid Power - "Making it Happen"

MCO’s trainer, Angela Edmonds has been managing training with Hy-Performance Fluid Power. The company general manager Kelvin Hamilton, who initially completed a Diploma of Business Management qualification with us along with his Sales Manager Phil Mulgrew, used the MCO training as a kick start to understanding the cultural and company changes required to progress the business. Hy-Performance Fluid Power has since continued to use MCO, with a recent group completing their TAE. They are now embarking on a development program for the future and moving location to a single site for their expansion. The MCO training meets their needs for the future.

They are a progressive company, originally started when their owner, Peter Robinson working from the back of his Ute in his home shed, continuously working to try and gain business in the customized hydraulic service, and engineering for blast hole drill rigs. They have grown from that point on, into their current position, having 4 sites on Tradelink Road Hillcrest.

This road is very familiar to Kelvin. He has not moved from being employed on the same road from the time he was an apprentice to today, working for one other firm in that 20 year period. He is a credit to the Hy-Performance Fluid Power Company and is a leading example in its development with the backing of Peter, the owner.

The culture of this company can only be commended with the use of MCO training and the continual change of culture, management and development stages they are going through. They have used the skills, knowledge and areas of their training to directly relate them to their improvements in site development. They have taken examples of work based improvements, which I discussed with them whilst on the initial training and put them into the 'real world of Hy-Performance Fluid Power' to the benefit of the company as a whole.

“The training received by my team has been fantastic. The cultural benefits of empowering my team can be linked directly to increased production, efficiency and reductions in our operating costs” said Kelvin Hamilton when asked of the benefits of training to Hy-Performance Fluid Power.
